it, for the second year I would send another of our men - which one depending upon the problems disclosed by Dr. Schofield's reconnaissance. The final year's work I would undertake myself, checking up the results obtained and endeavoring to solve problems raised by the earlier work, The final report and map would represent our joint efforts. As to terms, an honorarium of £800 for each

season spent in the field together with travelling expenses, living expenses while out of Canada and necessary outlave in connection with the work, would be satisfactory.

While the geo) ogist's absence from Canada

might not be a whole year, office and laboratory work ueually equal the time spent in the field, so that more than

a year's services would be given for 2800.

This would result in a financial Joss to those of us engaged as one would have to take a year's absence from the University without pay; this exceede the specified 2800 per annum by amounts ranging up to 2800.

This however we are willing to sacrifice to keep the expense of the undertaking as low as possible, and we would gain personally by obtaining first hand know edge

of the Geology on the other side of the Pacific, a know] edge that might prove useful to us in our work on this side.

The work oould be started any time, but in view of your summer weather, I presume it should be begun at the close of the summer rains. September 1922 would suit

us.

There is likely to be a Pan Pacific Congress

in Australia next summer, and as I am a member of the Research Committee on Geology I may have to go down there. In that case it might be possible for me to visit Hongkong and look over the field in company with Dr. Schofield,

Yours, &c., (8d.) R. W. Brook,

Deen.
